Join the North Carolina Coastal Federation and Wetlands Watch on Tuesday, October 3rd to participate in a community science program that documents flooding during king tides. At this event, we’ll talk about why we study king tides as previews of future sea level rise predictions and why coastal communities such as Wrightsville Beach are at risk for increased flooding. We’ll learn how to use the Sea Level Rise app to document how far flooding comes inland, and how to use the Coastal Observer app to document how high water levels get during a king tide. Then, we’ll head out into the field to practice data collection on Wrightsville Beach. Refreshments will be provided! Please bring your smartphone, waterproof shoes, and a water bottle.
Please reach out to Bonnie Mitchell, Coastal Education Coordinator at bonniem@nccoast.org for any questions or concerns.
