The Brunswick County Parks and Recreation staff along with Benesch Group has been diligently working on a conceptual Master Buildout Plan for the Ocean Isle Beach Park.  To view a copy of this plan select here.  The Town of Ocean Isle Beach donated approximately 57 acres of property to the County in March 2005 in order to bring a state of the art park to the Southeastern portion of Brunswick County.   There has been considerable public input provided during this conceptual plan phase, with almost 900 survey responses received and many citizens attending numerous public workshop.  The Steering Committee for this project has worked very hard to incorporate the needs and requests of the citizens.   
 
Based on this input the proposed plan will include a baseball/softball complex with five (5) fields (Four 300’ and one 200’ Field), paved walking trails, 3 multi-purpose fields, pickle ball courts, fitness equipment, inclusive playgrounds, additional picnic shelters and restrooms, horseshoe pits, dog park, basketball courts, additional parking to support the new facilities as well as open space/passive areas.  The plan also incorporate the existing facilities which include tennis courts, multipurpose field, playground, restrooms and amphitheater.
 
The next step in this process is review by the Brunswick County Parks and Recreation Board and presentation to the Brunswick County Board of Commissioners for their approval and funding of the project. 
 
This is a project that has now been in the making for ELEVEN YEARS!!  The Mayor and Board of Commissioners for the Town of Ocean Isle Beach remain committed to this project, however WE NEED YOUR HELP!!!  It is very important that you contact your County Commissioners and attend their March 7^th meeting in order to express the importance of a park in our area and garner their commitment to its total buildout. 
 
Please contact your County Commissioners at the email address below and plan to attend the March 7, 2016 County Commissioners Board meeting to help us voice support for this project.  These meetings are held in the Commissioners Meeting Room in the David R. Sandifer Building at the County Complex beginning at 5:45 PM.  We would also appreciate you sharing this update with your friends and associates.
