Sea Biscuit Shelter & Migrating Waterfowl
Our guest presenter, Mary Ellen Rogers, was born in NY and grew up on Long Island. When she retired to Oak Island in 2005, she discovered that there were no local facilities to care for injured birds. So she founded one! Her Oak Island Sea Biscuit Wildlife Shelter handles about 350 birds each year. The majority arrive in the spring and fall during migration. They are injured or simply exhausted by their long journey. Sea Biscuit rescues, rehabilitates, and releases its birds. Listen to Mary Ellen's story and be amazed at one woman's determination to make a difference. She will bring some live birds along with her; you can meet them up close and personal after her presentation.
