Sculptural works by Erin Nolan, a senior and a BFA Sculpture candidate at East Carolina University, will be featured at the gallery from Monday, May 7 through Saturday, May 11. A public reception will be held Thursday evening, May 9 from 5 to 7 p.m. No reservations are needed.
The exhibition, which is titled Motion of the Ocean includes 12 pieces in a range of media including cast iron, steel, cast aluminum, and wood. The artist, who lives in Calabash, said, “Calabash and the coastal environment have proven to be big sources of inspiration for me and continue to influence my work. As an artist, I strive for a greater understanding of our world and the relationships formed between living organisms and their surroundings. Inspiration for my work is drawn from natural life forms, scientific processes and by exploring many of the different environments of the world and the bonds formed within.”
Nolan creates her artwork by welding, casting, and carving several types of material. She chooses the medium for each piece carefully in order to best suit the form and overall feel of the artwork.
