The Kennedys In Concert
The Kennnedys are like a modern musical love story - not just of each other, but of American music in all its forms. Apart from their own band of acoustic-electric folk rock, their shows often include everything from Bob Dylan covers to Delta blues to traditional folk tunes....to "Rhapsody in Blue" arranged for solo ukelele. (Yes , really.)
Pete Kennedy may be the greatest guitarist you've never heard of. A Washington, DC, native, he was a contemporary of the late, great Danny Galton, and did plenty of tuxedoed gigs with the National Symphony, when he wasn't on the road backing the likes of Mary Chapin-Carpenter.
Singer-songwriter Maura Kennedy has a degree in music. A Syracuse native, she migrated, as many musicians do, to Austin, Texas, where she fell in with Nanci Griffith's backing band. The guitar player for that band? None other than Pete Kennedy. The two hit it off, had their first date at Buddy Holy's gravesite, and in 1993 west out on the road as the Kennedys. Since then, they have cut 10 albums, played with the likes of Steve Earle and Roger McGuinn and continue to tour relentlessly in their Scion hatchback.
