About Us

Founded in 1996, Canines for Service is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and the longest-operating, internationally accredited service dog provider in North Carolina. CFS partners highly trained service dogs -at no cost or fundraising obligation- with Veterans nationwide from all conflicts & branches with service-connected PTSD, traumatic brain injury, military sexual trauma, and/or mobility limitations.

The dogs at Canines for Service begin their training at eight weeks old and complete a two-year program, accomplishing approximately 2,000 hours of specialized training before being partnered with their Veteran. With an estimated cost of $50,000 per dog, Canines for Service ensures each Veteran client receives a life-changing service dog at no cost, including travel, lodging, and lifelong support.
